There are many reasons why art exists, but it seems to me that basically art is an effort to communicate an emotional response to a visual experience. For this reason, every technique available to me was employed to augment the very differing moods of the California and Venice paintings. The artist can communicate his feelings to others no matter what language they speak, therefore painting is what I call a kind of visual lingua franca.
